5 April, 2008 I am within a few hours of completing a new painting entitled "Urban American Gothic." Its been long several months in the making. The painting includes three figures, and this increased the complexity of the piece significantly. Thanks to everyone for patiently waiting. An image of the painting will be available here within a week or so. I love the new piece, but I've begun my next painting - my first of a man in many years - and my focus and attention has shifted to this...

"A Convenient Myth" was a very intimidating piece for me as the figure was at a 1:1 scale, which allows the viewer to easily perceive any irregularities. The model for the painting is a resident of Minneapolis, half Dutch, half Finn. At a height of 1.93 meters (6' 4"), she filled the space requirements without having to adjust the scale. She is a very patient woman and was incredibly relaxed while posing with the snake. I'd also like to take this opportunity to thank Bruce at the Twin Cities Reptile Center for providing us with this large Python and helping us position the snake for the pose without anyone having been bitten. We spent the last couple of days constructing the shipping crate and are relieved to move into the New Year without unfinished business.
