My show at the Nina Bliese gallery is coming to a close on 21 November, 2008. On opening night I was interviewed by Matt Peiken of 3 minute EGG. The interview can be viewed by clicking here. The show is moving to the Atwood Memorial Center Gallery at St. Cloud State University on 24 November. The St. Cloud show will include my most recently completed painting entitled, "Affliction: The down side of up." I hope those who did not get a chance to view the work in Minneapolis can make the St. Cloud show. I will be giving a one hour lecture and slideshow at the Atwood Theater at noon on the 2nd of December, 2008. The talk is sponsed by Women’s Action for Liberation and Leadership- all are welcome.

In other news, one of my paintings has been included in the soon to be published LEXIKON DER PHANTASTISCHEN KÜNSTLER by the Museum der Phantastischen Künste, Vienna, Austria. I will provide a link to this museum catalog as soon as it is available.

The photo below was taken on October 2nd during my artist talk at the Nina Bliese Gallery.

5 April, 2008working on "urban america gothic"

I am within a few hours of completing a new painting entitled "Urban American Gothic." Its been long several months in the making. The painting includes three figures, and this increased the complexity of the piece significantly. Thanks to everyone for patiently waiting. An image of the painting will be available here within a week or so. I love the new piece, but I've begun my next painting - my first of a man in many years - and my focus and attention has shifted to this...

hanging in the studioToday I shipped my most recent painting, "A Convenient Myth" to a collector in Washington, DC. This was a commission piece, for which the only guideline was that the painting's dimensions were to be 216 x 76 cm ( 85 x 30 inches), leaving me in control of the content. I was pleased for the opportunity to create a painting that I have had on my mental notepad for several years.

"A Convenient Myth" was a very intimidating piece for me as the figure was at a 1:1 scale, which allows the viewer to easily perceive any irregularities. The model for the painting is a resident of Minneapolis, half Dutch, half Finn. At a height of 1.93 meters (6' 4"), she filled the space requirements without having to adjust the scale. She is a very patient woman and was incredibly relaxed while posing with the snake. I'd also like to take this opportunity to thank Bruce at the Twin Cities Reptile Center for providing us with this large Python and helping us position the snake for the pose without anyone getting bitten.

We spent the last couple of days constructing the shipping crate and are relieved to move into the New Year without unfinished business.
